For a change, President Dick Troncone didn’t call the meeting to order, or at least not for most of us. Instead, we returned to a variant of the original Rotary format, traveling to the workplaces of our members, as well as the homes of some of our beneficiaries.
I went to the offices of San Diego Opera, where Ian Campbell passed out the lunches we had ordered that were delivered by Picnic People of Festivities Catering. The Opera drew Steve Hubbard, Marc Tarasuck, Daryl Ferguson, and Bob Carroll. Ian told us about the upcoming season, talked about how the Opera is dealing with the weak economy, and related the problems. He also talked about the joys and difficulties of getting top singers to come to perform here in beautiful San Diego. It’s a long way from Europe, where most of the singers live. There’s a cottage on the boardwalk at PB in which the singers love to stay.
