Club 33 | Committees

Doing the work of Rotary begins in your committees

Furthering the work of Rotary in your community, your region or internationally happens in our committees. You have an enormous opportunity as a volunteer in Club 33 to become involved and active. It’s personally rewarding and great fun!

We have many levels of time commitments as well as different kinds of service to the club and community. We encourage you to join at least 2 committees and see what works best for you. Committee work is where you really get to know fellow Rotarians and share the fellowship that ties us all together.

With the information on our many committees in Club 33 shown at the right, you will be able to review each synopsis and see which ones are a fit for your personal interests. To become part of a committee, simply contact the chair via the email link to answer any questions you may have. Being part of a committee is the best way to get to know members, enjoy personal rewards and contribute to the success of Rotary.

Purpose: San Diego Rotarians, working with the Ensenada Centenaria Rotary club, come together to assist in the distribution of food baskets to needy families in the greater Ensenada area. The committee encourages the donation of excess tuna caught by the anglers of the San Diego boats in the Sportfishing Association of California fleet, and the cases of donated tuna are then transported by San Diego Rotarians to members of Ensenada Rotary. The tuna cans are then distributed to the 600 – 700 food baskets and San Diego and Southern California Rotarians team up with Ensenada Rotarians who then carry the food baskets to the poor ‘barrios’ of Ensenada where the food is handed directly to families in need.
The “Fish Across the Border” project is carried out in early- to mid- January each year, and in addition to the tuna, the San Diego Rotary donates $1,000 to help buy other food staples for the baskets. Also, the
Sportfishing Association of California (SAC) makes a $500 donation and the excess dollars (usually about $400-500) are given to Ensenada Rotary to help buy additional needed food items. Other Rotary clubs in the Southern California area also bring money and additional items, such as socks or other clothing, and they help to distribute the food baskets.

Why join: Following the distribution of the baskets, all the Rotarians and their families and guests gather at the home of an Ensenada Rotarian for fellowship and conversation, and a great time is had by all!
