Doing the work of Rotary begins in your committees

Furthering the work of Rotary in your community, your region or internationally happens in our committees. You have an enormous opportunity as a volunteer in Club 33 to become involved and active. It’s personally rewarding and great fun!

We have many levels of time commitments as well as different kinds of service to the club and community. We encourage you to join at least 2 committees and see what works best for you. Committee work is where you really get to know fellow Rotarians and share the fellowship that ties us all together.

With the information on our many committees in Club 33 shown at the right, you will be able to review each synopsis and see which ones are a fit for your personal interests. To become part of a committee, simply contact the chair via the email link to answer any questions you may have. Being part of a committee is the best way to get to know members, enjoy personal rewards and contribute to the success of Rotary.

Latest News: Our Rotary Tennis Tournament will be held on Wednesday, May 19, at 5:30 p.m. at the
Barnes Tennis Center. There will be wine and snacks following the tournament. Guests are invited to watch the games and enjoy the wine and snacks. There is a $25 entry fee for the tournament. The last tournament was held on
on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Barnes Tennis Center with 16 participants. The trophy was won by Bruce Hunt, whose partner in the finals was Brian Pyke, son of Rotary member Greg Pyke.

Current Goals: To support the youth tennis programs at Barnes Tennis Center, expanding the interest of young people in tennis.
We also want to encourage more Rotarians to participate in the sport through our club tournaments or informal
tennis get-togethers.

Purpose: To support the Barnes Tennis Center and its After School Program.
To sponsor tennis tournaments for the benefit of Club 33
members, promoting fellowship and the healthy benefits
of participation in an active sport.

Activities/responsibilities: Each Spring the Committee organizes an end-of-school-year tennis fair at the Barnes Junior Tennis Center in Point Loma. Rotary is supporting the After School Program this year with a gift of $2,500. Members of the committee and other members of Rotary come out on a Saturday morning to work with the After School Program kids by running the morning activities on the courts. They also help organize and distribute donated clothing for the kids.
The committee is also sponsoring a Rotary Club Tennis
Tournament for October 24, 2009, at the Barnes Center.

Why join: This committee is looking for Rotary members who enjoy tennis and are willing to help out with the annual Barnes Tennis Center’s After School Spring Fair. The staff at the Barnes Center sets up the event with the Rotary members serving as monitors on the courts for the event. It is a great way for new members who have any interest in tennis to give back to the community and to celebrate the tennis After School Program out of the Barnes Center. Participants have access to the Barnes Center to play tennis on occasion.
