Dr. Eric Dinerstein - Chief Conservation Scientist - World Wildlife Fund, '2010: The Year of the Tiger'

Sheraton West Ballroom - Bel Aire Ballroom

Tigers, the most popular animals on Earth, are in crisis. Dr. Dinerstein and his colleagues have shown that tigers now occupy only 7% of the historical range and 40% less area than they did ten years ago. Worse news is that the current estimates for wild tigers is approximately 3,200 from populations scattered across 13 countries. Wild tigers are a symbol and an umbrella for the biodiversity-rich habitats. If we can save tigers, we can save many other less well-known species What can we do to avoid this crisis and recover wild tigers? Dr. Dinerstein's talk will focus on a tiger stabilization and recovery program that he is co-leading with other scientists, conservationists, government agencies, and development specialists at the World Bank. In this talk, he will explain all about tiger biology, what makes them unique and so fascinating, and how a tiger recovery program can save the most spectacular and largest carnivores on the planet.
